Challenges in the Woods

There are many different challenges in the woods, like bears, mountain lions, bobcats, skunks and raccoons. Many people tend to carry a rifle or pistol with them, when they go into the woods to go camping.

Bears and raccoons tend to dig in the trash that is in dumpsters, at night and may enter your camp looking for other food as well. There have been several attacks in recent years with bears and mountain lions, however, raccoons, and skunks are not dangerous unless they are rabid.

If you see these kinds of animals out during the daytime, chances are they are sick or rabid and need to be, killed for they could be dangerous. If any animal has bitten you or one of your family members, seek medical attention immediately. Moreover, if you are unable get to a hospital, locate a park ranger station; in fact check to make sure a park ranger station is available wherever you decide on camping.

Other challenges in the woods maybe things like getting lost, many people that go camping carry a map and a compass with them. It is good for at least one or more people in your group, to know how to read both the map and the compass. Many national parks have markers that inform you, on where you are now and some have maps throughout the park, so no one gets lost.

If for any reason you have to travel off course use markers, or land marks to find your way back. In addition, each member of your party or group should all carry walkie-talkies with them at all times. Moreover, never let anyone from your party wonder off alone always make sure that someone goes with him or her, because there are many wild animals out in the woods.

The reason why no one should go off alone is that if a snake bites him or her they; will not be able to tell anyone, what has happened to them. Therefore, depending on what type of snake it was that bit them; could result in a life or death matter. It only takes a few minutes to a few hours for a snake’s venom to reach the heart and if medical assistance is not, preformed immediately, the person could possible die.

Some plants and barriers can be very poisonous, so be sure that someone carries a survival handbook with them that has a list of all the poisonous plants and barriers that a person should not consume.
