Boracay: an Island Paradise

Beaches, partying non-stop, beautiful bodies and ultra-relaxed atmosphere. That’s what Boracay is all about. This is the Philippines’ answer to Indonesia’s Bali and Thailand’s Phucket. The bone-shaped island of Boracay is located in the Western Visayas, at the northwest tip of Panay. A plane trip from Manila will take about thirty to forty-five minutes.

Boracay is known not just for its breathtaking beaches, but for it’s atmosphere and for the activities it can offer. There are water sports galore – kite-surfing, wind-surfing, banana-boat riding, sailing, snorkeling and scuba diving. Boracay is also known for its glorious sunset and its warm, friendly people.

Boracay Island has plenty of great beaches. There is the popular White Beach, Diniwid Beach, Punta Beach, Balinghai Beach and so much more. There are a number of sandy coves nestled around the island and even more little islands surrounding Boracay.

For amazing views of the island, go up to Mount Luho. The steps may be tiring and exhausting, but the views you will enjoy is well worth it. Another unique experience will be a visit to eerie Dead Forest, where literal dead trees cast shadows that you may either find mysterious or downright scary (depending on your inclination). You can also visit the bats at Yapak. Here, fruit bats and cave bats fly right over your head.

If you have the family with you, you can visit Kingfisher’s Farm or the Butterfly Garden at Bolabog Beach. The farm actually raises the milkfish (or bangus as it is known to locals). This place allows you to fish for your lunch – but don’t worry, if you don’t catch anything, you can always order. You can also spend lazy afternoons combing the beach for shells.

The fun does not stop during the day. When nighttime falls, the island pulsates with a different life. The lighted and intricately sculpted sandcastles signal the start of the partying. You can try your hand at fire dancing, or if that would be too hard for you, you can do the regular kind of dancing.
